Since 2019, Diocesan Boys’ School 男拔萃 (DBS) has cultivated not only academic distinction but also a profound ethos of compassion through its enduring partnership with Sunshine Action. Exemplary students who demonstrate exceptional dedication and leadership are honored with the distinction of Sunshine Ambassadors—appointed pupil leaders entrusted with guiding and overseeing the initiatives of Sunshine Action’s DBS chapter. 🌐 Comprising primarily alumni who have been engaged with Sunshine Action since Grade 10, the club serves as a vital nexus, uniting past and present students in a shared commitment to service. Its core mission is threefold: to foster connections among alumni, facilitate participation in Sunshine Action’s philanthropic endeavors, and orchestrate bespoke corporate collaborations that enhance professional development opportunities. For many years, Diocesan Boys’ School has maintained an exceptional academic record in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme, consistently producing 4-5 graduates with a perfect score of ib45 points and approximately 10 high achievers of ib44 and many more ib43 within a cohort of around 60 students. The school’s average IB score of 42.5 further attests to its rigorous academic standards and the caliber of its students. Remarkably, in the inaugural year of its partnership with Sunshine Action, Diocesan Boys’ School achieved an extraordinary milestone—emerging as the top-ranked IB school globally that year. This unprecedented accomplishment not only underscored the institution’s academic excellence but also highlighted the transformative impact of strategic collaboration in fostering unparalleled educational outcomes. In 2025, they stand as IBDP graduates, their potential honed and their purpose sharpened, crossing a defining threshold: their inaugural corporate meeting with Margaret Lo, Executive Director and Head of Philanthropy Investment Services BNP Paribas 法國巴黎銀行—a luminary in the world of strategic giving. ☀ For the "Sunshine DB Club 耀陽拔萃會" , this was more than a ceremonial introduction to high-impact philanthropy; it was a masterclass in influence, a gateway to the inner workings of legacy-building generosity. The dialogue transcended mere networking—it was an immersion into the alchemy of turning vision into action, where every handshake carried the weight of future collaborations and every insight could seed tomorrow’s transformative projects. ⭐ Here, education met execution. The students didn’t just observe; they engaged with the architecture of change, learning that the currency of impact is not just intention, but access—to wisdom, to networks, to the unspoken rhythms of leadership. Now, as these alumni embark on new journeys across the globe, we are proud to unveil an inspiring next chapter: 💫 “The Sunshine DBS Club” connecting the alumini Why Join the “ Sunshine DB Club ” ? 🌍 Reconnect & Rekindle – Forge bonds with fellow DBS Sunshine Ambassadors and DBS alumni spanning the US, UK, Hong Kong, and beyond. • Save the Sea (HK) | Sunshine Action

SAVE THE SEA Project Info In 2010, Sunshine Action started the Save the Sea program which promotes: Restocking the ocean by releasing small fishes and other aquatic life to their respective native regions. Healthy environment for aquatic life (e.g., with mini artificial reefs) Responsible aquaculture Cleaner beaches Fishing in Hong Kong and how Sunshine Action Helps Hong Kong is comprised of a single peninsula and over 200 offshore islands, on the southeastern coast of Mainland China. Hong Kong is home to a diverse aquatic habitat with rocky shores, coral reefs and artificial reefs. Hong Kong also has a relatively high diversity of fishes, with over 1000 recorded marine fish species. Unfortunately the region also faces an overfishing threat. In Hong Kong, the fishing rest period lasts 2 months, and in China, the fishing rest period lasts 2 and a half months. These short rest periods results in overfishing, which then leads to the depletion of resources, low aquatic life growth rates and low biomass levels. According to a 2008 UN report, the world's fishing fleets are losing US$50 billion each year through depleted stocks and poor management of fisheries. The purpose of this program is to restock the ocean with fish. Sunshine Action does this by releasing native fishes to their local waters. The fishes are released near an artifical reef, which is a protected area which is under continuous supervision of the Hong Kong police. The program takes place in the summer, which is about the same time when species of smaller fish (which are released) have their hatching season. Till date, Sunshine Action has released more than 118,800 indigenous small fishes and aquatic creatures into the the Ocean, including: Yellow Tail Star Snapper Marbled Rockfish Rabbit Fish

  • Public Health Project | Sunshine Action

PUBLIC HEALTH PROJECT Project Info Over the summer of 2021, some of our UK interns have been working on a public health project targeted towards the homeless community. The COVID-19 pandemic has revealed significant gaps in health provisions for homeless people in the UK. Whilst the homeless population have always been at increased risk of illness, the risks associated with catching COVID-19 have made this an imperative public health issue. There are many barriers to homeless people seeking the medical care they need. Having to provide a permanent address when registering with a GP, inflexible appointment booking systems, discrimination from staff and gaps in suitable support all make it more difficult for a homeless individual to have reliable access to healthcare. Moreover, the lack of stable housing often means that health needs are not prioritised and medical issues go untreated. Health problems amongst the homeless population present a significant burden to the NHS. Hospital and A&E admissions of homeless people is four times higher than the rate within the general public, which is estimated to cost a minimum of £85m per year. The pandemic has flagged up some of these issues; the impact of COVID-19 is likely to be worse for someone who already has inadequate access to healthcare. The government has prioritised vaccination of the homeless community in order to stop the spread of COVID on the streets, but more needs to be done in order to encourage higher uptake. Moreover, studies have shown a hike in mental health problems amongst the homeless population since the start of the pandemic. Increased isolation and boredom have led to a rise in conditions such as depression and anxiety amongst the homeless and those living in temporary accommodation. Consequently, our interns have created a health pamphlet to be distributed to rough sleepers around the UK. It contains information on how to register with a GP, details of organisations offering physical and mental health support, how to access dental and eye care, as well as information about COVID-19 symptoms and testing. It also suggests ways to stay mentally and physically healthy on a daily basis. Please take a look at the booklet below: EMBED PDF HERE IF POSSIBLE

  • Congenital Heart Disease | Sunshine Action

Project Info Sunshine Action raises money to give children with congenital heart defects (CHD) access to lifesaving surgery and medication. To date, 60 surgeries have been completed thanks to funding from Sunshine Action. Donors can personally visit the patients they donate to, both before and after the surgery. Recipients of surgeries are often those who could not afford surgery without help. In 2023, Sunshine Action is struggling to financially sustain all programs, including the CHD Program. Your contribution would mean a lot to us. Donate now! What is CHD? A congenital heart defect (CHD) is a defect in the structure of the heart and great vessels which is present at birth. The term CHD refers to many types of defects, most of which either obstruct blood flow in the heart or vessels near it, or cause blood to flow through the heart in an abnormal pattern. Other defects, such as long QT syndrome, affect the heart's rhythm. Heart defects are among the most common birth defects and are the leading cause of birth defect-related deaths. Approximately 9 people in 1000 are born with a congenital heart defect. Some complex congenital heart defects require medication or surgery. In China, as many as 8/1000 people are born with CHD, meaning that more than 10 million Chinese people are affected by these conditions. Patient Stories Mu Lar Kway was a 14-year-old girl when she came to Sunshine Action with a congenital cardiac disease known as Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF). TOF accounts for about 10% of congenital heart diseases and is characterized by a ventricular septal defect, or a hole in the muscle wall that separates the two lower chambers of the heart. This hole allows oxygen-rich blood to mix with oxygen-poor blood, and results in a decreased efficiency of the heart. The blood picks up less oxygen from the lungs, and oxygen-poor blood circulates through the body. Prior to her surgery, Mu Lar Kway lived in Burma with her brother, parents, and niece. She attended grade 5 at her local school. She enjoyed going to school but often had to miss class because of extreme fatigue. Due to her condition, the simplest tasks, including the 20 minute walk to school, exhausted her. Because her blood supply was deficient in oxygen, her skin, lips and fingernails had a blue tint. Her condition also stunted her growth, giving her the appearance of looking much younger. Her parents were paddy farmers earning around USD $200 a month. After education and food costs her family was unable to put away money for savings and could not afford the treatment that she needed for her condition. Fortunately, she received surgery thanks to funding from Sunshine Action. Kyaw Linn Naing was 15 years old when he was referred to Sunshine Action with a congenital heart disease known as Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD). RHD is the most common acquired heart disease in children in many countries of the world, especially in developing countries such as Burma. Kyaw Linn Naing was first diagnosed at 11-years-old and experienced heart palpitations, difficulty breathing and cyanosis. He also could not walk for longer than 10 minutes at a time. Kyaw Linn Naing lives with his parents, siblings, and grandmother in Burma. His parents were vegetable growers and stated that Kway Linn Naing's medical treatment is very expensive in Burma and costs more than they could ever afford. Under the care of Burma Children Medical Fund (BCMF), an organization which helps Burmese refugees in Thailand, Kyaw Linn Naing received lifesaving surgery. He has since made a full recovery. His family is very grateful to BCMF and his doctors who helped him. When he is older, he would like to be a doctor to give others the gift of good health. Walkathon In past years Sunshine Action has organized the China Walkathon to DuLongJiang, a major walkathon which raises money for children with congenital heart disease in China. The Walkathon location is along the Dulong River, located in the northwest section of Yunnan Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture. The Dulong River Valley is inhabited by the Dulong people, one of the smallest ethnic groups in China. Many children living in the Dulong River Valley and other sparsely populated areas cannot afford treatment for congenital heart disease, which is why the Walkathon is so important to raise money and awareness for those in need. Along with other international efforts, Sunshine Action has paused the Walkathons due to travel restrictions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

  • Our Story | Sunshine Action

OUR STORY On January 1st 2008, three volunteers founded Sunshine Action with nothing but heart and one mission: to serve those in need. During one of the toughest economic crises in Hong Kong, our founder used his own salary to purchase 100 packets of rice, which were donated to 100 struggling workers. From that day, Sunshine Action has come a long way, committing to operate fully on volunteers and donations. Having worked with 30 organizations in only its first year, Sunshine Action has grown tremendously. Today, it is estimated that Sunshine Action has helped over 430,000 people directly, reaching 25 countries & regions worldwide, and partnering with around 950 other charitable organizations. Moreover, we've greatly expanded in volunteering programs since our launch, having had more than 10,000 students and corporate volunteers working together for this mission. We take pride in the many events and programs which Sunshine Action have hosted over the years, mainly in our Fortune Bag and Street Sleepers programs in Hong Kong, US & UK. Sunshine Action continually works to expand and globalize, with bases in both the United Kingdom and the United States, and by working with interns to further the vision established at the heart of the charity. We stay committed to serving those in need. The UN Sustainable Development Goals Sunshine Action has many different programs around the world. • Fortune Bag (HK) | Sunshine Action

Sunshine Fortune Bags This was the first official program of Sunshine Action in 2008 and remains our biggest project after more than a decade. We started with the simple concept that "Everyone Needs to Eat", called our donations Fortune Bags, and used the Festive Seasons as a motivation to donate. From 2024, the Sunshine Action weekly events are in reels at the Sunshine Action Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sunshineactionhk The History of the Sunshine Fortune Bags The Fortune Bag Program packs and distributes bags full of rice, pasta, dry foods, sauces, toiletries, and other necessities to low-income individuals supported by our partner beneficiaries. The Sunshine Fortune Bag Program is the biggest program in the organization, which focuses on poverty relief. The Sunshine Fortune Bags have been distributed in many countries & regions around the world, including UK, USA, Canada, Vietnam, Kenya, China, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Hong Kong, Mongolia, India, Macau, Nepal, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Indonesia, Vietnam & the Philippines in the last 17years. In 2023, Sunshine Action is struggling to financially sustain all programs, including the Fortune Bag Program. Your contribution would mean a lot to us. Donate now! The first charity organization Sunshine Action donated Fortune Bags to was the HK Women Workers Association and its sister organization, Cleaning Workers’ Association. At that time in early 2008, there was no minimum wage in Hong Kong. Most cleaning workers made an average of only HKD$3,500-4,500 per month (USD$450-580). Many struggled to pay rent and sustain their families but could not apply for social welfare support. When Sunny started the Sunshine Fortune Bags program in 2008, there were only a couple of volunteers each season to pack all bags. They borrowed the office from HK Women Workers Association to store the food. Volunteers came on Saturdays and Sundays for 3 consecutive weekends to pack the bags. Sunshine Action did not have its own office until 4 years later. This was the humble beginning of Sunshine Action, the world's smallest charity organization. The Fortune Bag Program has since expanded outside of Hong Kong. Sunshine Action began providing Fortune Bags in Macau in 2011. Fortune Bags have also been distributed in Vietnam, Kenya, China, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Hong Kong, Mongolia, India, Nepal, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Indonesia, Vietnam & the Philippines. Occasionally, we also donate to local charity kitchens in bulk. In addition to distributing Fortune Bags, Sunshine Action has donated food to the poor through the following organizations: Blue Sky Food Assistance Serv. Project Crossroad Foundation Feeding Hong Kong Food Angel Food Grace Foodlink Foundation Food for Good Food Friend Action Greener Action J Life Foundation K.T. Methodist Cleaners Community Food Bank Christian Action Kitchen for the Refugees Missionaries of Charity Nam Cheong shelter St. James Settlement People's Food Bank YWAM Food Bank Tuen Mun Fortune Bag Records The biggest Sunshine Fortune Bags program conducted in a single morning was during the Mid-Autumn Festival in 2020, donating over 7,500 Sunshine Fortune Bags for the poor and elderly in Hong Kong, through 70 local centres. The heaviest Sunshine Fortune Bags were packed during September 2020 for Mid-Autumn Festival and World Food Day, with each bag containing 9-10 items and averaging 9 kg (or roughly 20 lbs) each The most expensive Sunshine Fortune Bags were made in May 2019 for Mother's & Father's Day. Each bag included 9 items and was approximately worth HKD$300 (USD$40). A total of 3,000 bags were distributed (total market value of HKD$900,000 or USD$120,000) during this period, making it the single most expensive program ever done in the history of Sunshine Action! Student and School Involvement Sunshine Action works with schools to fundraise, package and distribute Fortune Bags. Schools can help support the Fortune Bag Program in several ways: Hosting an event – Fortune Bag events require a venue and space for short-term food storage. Most food purchased by Sunshine Action would arrive 2-4 days before the packing event and normally in pallets. The items do not need to be stored inside rooms, but preferably under a roof to avoid potential rain. Schools must provide space for assembly lines to pack Fortune Bags. The open space should be fit for at least 6 assembly lines, with 3 long tables for each line. Fundraising and collecting donation items – items must be collected for distribution prior to the packing event. The target for donations should be the target number of Fortune Bags x 3-4 items per bag. These items must be at least 6 months from expiry date and not be stored in glass containers. During the pandemic, protective masks and other anti-pandemic items are also welcome. Schools can also create fundraising events to support the purchase of items for donation. On average, the school and students involved collect 50% of the donated content and Sunshine Action covers the remaining 50%. Project Info Sunshine Action maintains a profound and enduring dedication to medical humanitarian efforts, spanning a wide spectrum of critical healthcare initiatives across multiple nations. From providing essential medicines to underserved communities to offering compassionate care for Leprosy and AIDS-affected orphans toCancer related patients, the organization’s mission encompasses both immediate relief and long-term support. The organization has also funded life-saving surgeries for Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) among impoverished farming families in Mainland China, offering hope where access to care is scarce. Supporting Children with Congenital Heart Disease: A Lifesaving Initiative In 2012, Sunny was approached by a dedicated group of core members from Sowers Action to collaborate on a critical humanitarian program—providing partial funding for life-saving surgeries for children from impoverished families in Mainland China suffering from Congenital Heart Disease 先天性心臟病 (CHD). ❤🩹 Understanding Congenital Heart Disease Congenital Heart Disease refers to structural heart defects present at birth, which can impair blood circulation and lead to severe complications if left untreated. Without timely surgical intervention, affected children face stunted growth, recurrent infections, heart failure, and tragically, premature death. Early treatment not only saves lives but also allows these children to thrive and lead fulfilling lives. ⚕ Our Collective Efforts Through impactful fundraising initiatives, including “China Walk: Hiking the Dulong River, Together We Support” (徒步獨龍江、你我共扶持), we raised essential funds to cover medical and surgical expenses for these vulnerable children. Thanks to the expertise of the medical team at the General Hospital of Guangzhou Military Command of PLA (中國廣州軍區總醫院) and the People's Armed Police Force General Hospital (中國人民武裝警總隊醫院), we successfully facilitated 57 life-changing surgeries in Guangzhou. Additionally, we extended our support to three critically ill Burmese refugee children in the Mae Sot region along the Thailand-Myanmar border. These 3 cases were operated in Ching Mai Hospital, Thailand. A Legacy of Compassion for Leprosy-Affected Communities For years, Sunshine Action has been a steadfast ally to individuals afflicted by leprosy 麻風病 across multiple nations, including India, Vietnam, Nepal, Myanmar (Burma), and beyond. Among its many humanitarian endeavors, the organization has extended vital support to Missionaries of Charity’s Home for Leprosy Patients in Titagarh, India—a sanctuary often regarded as Mother Teresa ’s "second love" During a heartfelt visit, Sunny (Sunshine Action’s founder) personally delivered essential surgical instruments and other donations to aid in the treatment and care of the residents. The Missionaries of Charity’s Titagarh Leprosy Center Established by Saint Mother Teresa, this compassionate refuge provides shelter, medical care, and dignity to those ostracized due to leprosy. The center embodies her unwavering commitment to serving "the poorest of the poor," offering not just treatment but also hope and community to individuals often rejected by society. Understanding Leprosy: A Disease of Neglect Leprosy (Hansen’s disease) is a chronic infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium leprae, primarily affecting the skin, nerves, and mucous membranes. Early symptoms include pale skin patches, numbness, and muscle weakness, which, if untreated, can lead to permanent disabilities, deformities, and blindness. Despite being curable with multi-drug therapy (MDT), leprosy patients frequently endure social stigma, abandonment by families, and systemic neglect. Many are forced into isolated colonies, deprived of livelihoods, and denied basic human dignity. Although global cases have declined, marginalized communities in India, Nepal, Brazil, and parts of Africa and Southeast Asia still face significant challenges in accessing timely treatment and social reintegration. Sunshine Action’s Outreach: Restoring Hope Beyond Titagarh, Sunshine Action has delivered food, medical supplies, and critical resources to numerous leprosy shelters and hospitals, including: - The Leprosy Mission Nepal – Anandaban Leprosy Hospital (Nepal) - Mayan Chaung Leprosy Village Center (Myanmar) - Raigarh Missionaries of Charity (India) - Shanti Leprahilfe Dortmund e.V. (Nepal) - Princep Leprosy Treatment Centre (Ardgya Ashrama Khokana) - Missionaries of Charity Prem Nagar Leprosy Center, Seemapuri (India) - Missionaries of Charity – Home for the Leprosy patients, Titagarh (India) - M.C. Prendam - Kolkata (India) - The Sisters of the Lovers of the Hole Cross Congregation of Cai Mon, LHC (Vietnam) These efforts not only alleviate suffering but also reaffirm a fundamental truth: no human being should be defined by their illness or abandoned in their time of need. Sunshine Action’s Support for Myasthenia Gravis Awareness Many years ago, Sunshine Action extended its humanitarian efforts to a group of asylum seekers, several of whom hailed from Africa. Among them was Aburisha, a Sudanese man who became not only a beneficiary of our programs but also a dedicated volunteer, assisting tirelessly in our initiatives. One day, however, Aburisha arrived in distress, exhibiting alarming symptoms: profound muscle weakness, drooping eyelids, and difficulty speaking and swallowing. His condition rapidly deteriorated, leaving him unable to control his movements. After urgent consultations with specialists and a series of exhaustive tests, he was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis (MG)—a rare, chronic autoimmune disorder that disrupts communication between nerves and muscles, leading to debilitating fatigue and loss of voluntary muscle control. Witnessing the challenges faced by those afflicted with MG, Sunshine Action was moved to support the cause. In solidarity, we donated Sunshine Bags to the Hong Kong Association of Myasthenia Gravis, offering both practical aid and raising awareness for this often-overlooked condition. This gesture reflects our enduring commitment to standing with vulnerable communities, ensuring that even the rarest struggles are met with compassion and action. Medical Students of HKU Hong Kong Univ, CUHK & HKU Master in Public Health For many years, Sunshine Action partnered with the medical students from HKU & CUHK in providing health-check and medical missions in Cambodia and donated many food, medicine and other resources to these organizations. Sunshine Action donated to 10-13 organizations throughout in these trips, buying food and supplies for orphans and low-income communities in Siem Reap and Thailand. In Bangkok, we primarily served Khlong Toei, a known slum in the city’s center. There, we made donations to HDF Mercy Center, the Duang Prateep Foundation, and Societas Verbi Divini, providing food for immigrants in low-income housing. Meeting with the organizations’ respective directors, we were glad to reestablish our pre-COVID-19 relationships. We discussed with each charity the rising income inequality and depressed economy, a consequence of the aforementioned decrease in tourism following the pandemic. In Siem Reap, we partnered with 24-26 members of Doctors of Excellence, a mixture of HKU and CUHK medical students, to provide pro bono medical attention. There, we spent time with each unique group of children, working with their leadership to conduct vision, BMI, and overall wellness checks. Together, we played games, provided medical care, food, and school supplies. It was bittersweet to simultaneously experience Cambodia’s vibrant culture as well as the suffering economy that has displaced numerous families from their homes. In the 2025 June Trip, Sunshine Action covered the donation to the following: 1-A.H.C.O. (Angkor Help the Children Org.), Cambodia 2-ABC & Rice, Cambodia 3-C.D.H.O. (Cambodia Development of Home Organization), Cambodia 4-C.D.O. (Cambodia Development of Hope Org.), Cambodia 5-C.I.O. (Cambodia Improvement Org.), Cambodia 6-Cheasim Norma Angkor Primary School, Cambodia 7-Grace House Cambodia, Siem Reap 8-KGM Community House / Bakong High School, Cambodia 9-Kong Much Primary School, Cambodia 10-Love to Progress People (LTPP), Cambodia 11-Missionaries of Charity, Siem Reap 12-New Hope Cambodia 13-Societas Verbi Divini SVD, Thailand In Hong Kong, Sunshine Action has partnered with Dr. HOT (Homeless Outreach Team) of HKU to perform comprehensive health evaluations for street-sleepers, addressing critical gaps in urban healthcare. Additionally, since 2017, the organization has mentored Master of Public Health (MPH) candidates from HKU, fostering the next generation of global health leaders. By 2025, this initiative has grown exponentially, with the number of interns quintupling—a testament to Sunshine Action’s enduring impact and commitment to sustainable healthcare development. Commitment to Supporting Cancer Patients and Their Families Beyond our dedication to raising awareness for Myasthenia Gravis, Sunshine Action has also extended heartfelt support—both emotionally and through the distribution of Sunshine Bags—to children and patients battling cancer across Asia. Recognizing the profound physical, emotional, and financial toll of this disease, we have partnered with numerous organizations to bring comfort and hope to those in need. Among the institutions we have collaborated with are: - Hong Kong Anti-Cancer Society 香港防癌會 - Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital Nepal – Providing essential aid to underprivileged cancer patients in Nepal. - Indian Cancer Society – Calcutta, India - Sri Lanka Cancer Society – Shanta Sevana Hospice, Sri Lanka – Offering palliative care and emotional support to terminal patients. - SLCS – Shanti Hospice, Sri Lanka – Ensuring dignity and comfort for those in advanced stages of cancer. - Associação dos Amigos da Caridade de Macau 澳門愛心之友協進會 - The New Voice Club 香港新聲會 Empowering laryngeal cancer survivors through rehabilitation and community. - Ronald McDonald House Charities 麥當勞叔叔之家慈善基金 - Children’s Cancer Foundation 兒童癌病基金 – we supported with long-term food support programs for some cases. - Hong Kong STOMA Association 香港造口人協會 Sunshine Action’s Eighteen-Year Commitment to HIV/AIDS Advocacy Nearly two decades ago, at a time when HIV/AIDS was still widely regarded as a deeply complex and stigmatized condition, Sunshine Action began its enduring collaboration with charitable organizations dedicated to addressing this global health crisis. Among the first partnerships was with the Mother Teresa's Home of Love in Nong Bua Lamphu, Thailand—an orphanage providing sanctuary for children affected by AIDS. Remarkably, Sunny, the founder of Sunshine Action, had visited this very institution even before establishing the organization, and he returned multiple times thereafter, reinforcing his commitment to their cause. Beyond Thailand, Sunshine Action extended its support to vulnerable communities in Vietnam, where countless orphans had contracted HIV through mother-to-child transmission. Recognizing the urgent need for intervention, the organization worked tirelessly to provide care, resources, and hope to those affected. Over the years, Sunshine Action has forged meaningful partnerships with numerous HIV/AIDS-focused organizations across Asia and Africa, including: - SVD Mother of Perpetual Help Center (Thailand) - PRERANA – Organization by PLWHA (Nepal) - Happy Heaven Humanitarian Project (Myanmar) - Wangige 'Stars of Hope' HIV Group (Kenya) - Karai Pamoja HIV Group (Kenya) - Gikambura Gibra HIV Group (Kenya) - Thogoto Gibra HIV Group (Kenya) - Kikuyu C.A.E. Group (Kenya) - A.C.K. Gathiga HIV/AIDS Self-Help Group (Kenya) - Gitaru Muguga CBO HIV Group (Kenya) - Missionaries of Charity (Nong Bua Lamphu, Thailand) - Tung Tam Mai Hoi (Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam) - New Hope for Cambodian Children (Cambodia) - Happy Tree House of Rainbow Bridge (Cambodia) - Hong Kong AIDS Foundation 香港愛滋病基金會 - Society of AIDS Care 愛滋寧養服務協會, Hong Kong Each of these alliances reflects Sunshine Action’s unwavering dedication to alleviating suffering, combating stigma, and fostering resilience among those impacted by HIV/AIDS. Through sustained advocacy and compassionate action, the organization continues to illuminate lives, proving that solidarity and care can transcend even the most formidable challenges. Nirmal Hriday M.C. The First and Most Important Experience Sunny's first and most profound engagement with a health-related initiative began in Kolkata, India, where he revisited Nirmal Hriday (Mother Teresa's Home for the Dying Destitute) & Prem Dam 5 times since 2007. The wards presented a heart-wrenching sight—nearly every patient bore a visage scarcely recognizable as human. It was there that he encountered, more than anywhere else in his life, emaciated figures, disfigured and disoriented, their conditions beyond redemption. This experience illuminated for him the essence of Mother Teresa’s mission: to restore, in their final moments, a vestige of human dignity to those forsaken by society. This was no hospital, but a sanctuary—a refuge for the destitute whom even medical institutions could not accommodate: the poorest of the poor, abandoned by kin and left to perish on the streets. Though the sisters had diligently bathed them, eliminating any trace of odor, the scenes remained harrowing. Some patients lay with limbs contorted and rigid, utterly immobile. Others, shrouded in oxygen masks, bore skeletal frames darkened by decay, awaiting their imminent passage. A few retained minimal mobility, though their minds had long since unraveled. With only a handful of sisters and willing volunteers, care was dispensed as circumstance allowed. Beyond conversation and massage, volunteers assisted with the most intimate needs—helping those who could barely walk to the toilet, half-carrying them when necessary. For the bedridden, they positioned bedpans beneath frail bodies, lifting gowns. Yet manpower was perpetually insufficient. Many elderly patients, desperate for relief, would tumble from their cots and crawl like insects toward the latrine, only to collapse along the way, forced to relieve themselves along drains or upon the floor until a sister or seasoned volunteer could cleanse and return them. The unconscious required constant vigilance—checking for soiled linens, changing towels, clothes, and sheets. Without funds for disposable diapers, volunteers faced endless cycles of laundry, a Sisyphean labor of compassion. Support of Individuals with Physical and Mental Disabilities Over the past eighteen years, Sunshine Action has extended its humanitarian commitment by providing substantial support and resources to numerous charitable organizations dedicated to serving individuals with physical and mental disabilities across multiple regions. Among the beneficiaries of this philanthropic initiative are some of following institutions: Victoria Home for Incurables (Sri Lanka) Dum Dum Missionaries of Charity (India) Nawamaga Caregiver’s Association for Down Syndrome Children (Sri Lanka) Lutheran Church Centre for the Handicapped (Hong Kong Lutheran Church Evergreen Wellness Centre) Retina Hong Kong (Hong Kong Retinitis Pigmentosa Society) Ngure Mentally Handicapped Group (Nairobi, Kenya) Misioneras de Caridad (Santiago, Chile) Associação dos Familiares Encarregados dos Deficientes Mentais de Macau (Macau Association of Parents of the Mentally Disabled) Hong Kong Alzheimer’s Disease Association ikuyu Disabled Mutual Help Group (Nairobi, Kenya) Direction Handicapped Association (Hong Kong Direction Association for the Physically Disabled) Hong Kong Occupational Deafness Association Hong Kong Association of the Deaf (Choi Hung Centre & Aberdeen Centre) Rehabilitation Extension Union Arms Care (Hand Care Association) Hong Kong Federation of Handicapped Youth (Employment Service Centre) Hong Kong Blind Buddhist Society PHAB Association (Promotion of Healthy and Active Living for the Disabled) New Life Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association Missionaries of Charity (Langata Otiende, Kibera Brothers, and Kasarani, Kenya) Alliance of Self-Help Groups for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Care for the Visually Impaired (Hong Kong Association for the Visually Impaired) Hong Kong Blind Union Po Leung Kuk Handicapped Centre (Comprehensive Support Services for Severe Physical Disabilities) Hong Kong Rehabilitation Power Associação de Apoio aos Deficientes de Macau (Macau Association for the Support of the Disabled) Rehabilitation Alliance Hong Kong Hong Kong PHAB Association – Harmony House Hong Kong SliX Society (Hong Kong Amputee Association) Association of Women with Disabilities Hong Kong Association for the Rights of Industrial Accident Victims Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Macau – Centro de Reabilitação de Cegos (Macau Holy House of Mercy – Blind Rehabilitation Centre) Associação Richmond Fellowship de Macau Gia Dinh Tinh Thuong Te-Phan (Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam) Hong Kong Lutheran Church Centre for the Blind Regeneration Society Rehabaid Society SILENCE (Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Integrated Service Centre) 1-Step Association (Self-Reliance Association) Alliance of Ex-Mentally Ill of Hong Kong (AEMIHK) Concern Mental Health Alliance Family Network (Support for Mental Health Patients and Their Families) And there are few hundreds more centers and organizations in the Sunshine Action Performance Report list. Through these collaborations, Sunshine Action has reinforced its dedication to fostering inclusivity, empowerment, and enhanced quality of life for individuals facing physical and mental challenges worldwide.
